Stats reveal the explosive popularity of the Evasi0n iOS 6.1 jailbreak

Evasi0n Traffic
It’s not a shock to see that, given the recent drought, there’s been a surge in jailbreaking iOS this week. The Evasi0n jailbreak tool has finally enabled the liberation of both the iPad mini and the iPhone 5, granting all of iOS 6 and up access to the benefits of super user access.
In case you’re curious, here’s what the massive surge of usage looks like:
Evasi0n Traffic
Cydia creator Saurik has had an interesting time recently. It was estimated that the Evasion jailbreak tool was downloaded 100,000 times within the first ten minutes of it being available. The jailbreak itself only takes about five minutes, and after that there’s only one thing to do. You tap that Cydia icon and begin pillaging the shelves of the unofficial App Store for your favorite apps.
Saurik reports that the traffic surge to Cydia peaked at 14,000 hits per second right after the release of Evasi0n. Instead of tapering back down, the volume of traffic headed for Cydia picked back up and has continued to tax the servers responsible for delivering most of the available content. So, if you’ve just jailbroken for the first time, and nothing in Cydia seems to work, that chances are good that the issue is not on your end.

It’s not enough to simply make a jailbreak tool that is incredibly simple to use and works on nearly every iOS device, you also have to make sure your website can sustain the sheer volume of users stampeding to your site to download it. In order to make sure their website remained stable and their download plans went off without a hitch, the Evad3rs relied on CloudFlare to keep the site up and running.
To serve the actual tool to users, the site offered Mirrors for Box.net, Mega, and RapidShare. Not long after the official release, @planetbeing of the Envad3rs commented on Twitter that they had already consumed half of the 2TB Box.net account that they created for this launch. By the end of the day, Evasi0n had consumed 4.2TB worth of downloads though Box.net alone.
jailbreak - Reddit traffic
The Evasi0n jailbreak tool has done more than just enable a whole new group of iOS devices, it’s breathed new life into the jailbreak community. A perfect example of this is the Reddit Jailbreak page. In the last month, this subreddit was nothing short of a ghost town. When you go five months without jailbreak, it’s hard to keep a conversation about that particular topic going!
The pageviews for the jailbreak subreddit erupted once the news hit that Evasi0n was live, nearly reaching 200,000 views from 25,000 views just a week before. Everywhere you look, new users are looking to get the most out of their seemingly new smartphones and tablets. Cydia is a massive place, even without the ability to add repositories, so it makes sense that new users would be looking everywhere for the best resources.
If ever there was a doubt regarding whether or not users still cared about jailbreaking or rooting their smartphones and tablets, just seeing the volume of users in the 24 hours since the release of Evasi0n should be all the proof you need. With new users comes new talent, new ideas, and new apps. Welcome to 2013, iOS users, we can’t wait to see what you do next.
